8th MULTIDISCIPLINARY SYMPOSIUM ON CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND URBAN MINING
21-23 MAY 2025 / PROCIDA, Naples, Italy

Procida, Italy

One of the distinctive features of the Symposium is the combination of high-level communication with a context that favours networking and socialization. This is why the new venue chosen for SUM is the stunning island of Procida, a gem in the Bay of Naples, crowned Italy’s Capital of Culture in 2022.
The symposium will take place across multiple venues located in the historic centre, Terra Murata, including the fascinating setting of Palazzo D’Avalos, Chiesa di Santa Margherita with its magnificent sea view and Cappella della Purità.

Procida is a captivating Mediterranean island with a unique blend of natural beauty, history, and authentic Italian culture. Just a short ferry ride from Naples, Procida’s colorful, pastel-colored buildings, scenic coastline, and charming, narrow streets make it an island of timeless appeal.
The island’s main harbor, Marina Corricella, welcomes visitors with its iconic view: fishing boats bobbing on clear waters, locals chatting over espresso in family-run cafes, and a tapestry of vibrant facades that seem to tumble into the sea. Unlike the bustling towns of the Amalfi Coast, Procida has preserved its tranquil, authentic feel, inviting travelers to experience its rich heritage at a leisurely pace.

A must-see is Terra Murata, the historic heart of Procida, where the fortified village and the stunning Palazzo D'Avalos, a former royal palace and later a prison, stand as witnesses to the island's storied past. Perched atop Procida’s highest point, this area offers breathtaking views over the Bay of Naples and nearby islands, while immersing visitors in Procida’s centuries-old traditions and architecture.

Procida is also home to some of the region’s most beautiful, secluded beaches. Cala del Pozzo Vecchio, also known as "Postman’s Beach" after its appearance in the film "Il Postino", is a favorite for its clear waters and quiet charm. Each cove and beach offers a moment of peace, framed by rocky cliffs and lush Mediterranean vegetation.

Named Italy's "Capital of Culture" in 2022, Procida is celebrated for its dedication to sustainability and its deep-rooted artistic legacy. From traditional Easter processions to local festivals, the island pulses with cultural energy, drawing artists, writers, and travelers who seek inspiration in its enchanting landscapes and quiet charm.

In Procida, life is about savoring the small pleasures: fresh seafood by the sea, sunset views from the hillside, and the gentle rhythm of island life that invites you to slow down and enjoy every moment.
